What is Osteopathy?
Our approach

Osteopathy is a manual form of therapy that emphasizes the relationship between the structure and function of the human body. This therapy follows a belief in the body’s ability to self-heal and self-regulate, which is why Osteopathic Manual Practitioners do not see themselves as healers, but instead as facilitators to health.

First introduced by founder A.T. Stills in the 1870s, osteopathy is a science, a philosophy, and a practice. The Canadian Academy of Osteopathy teaches a Osteopathic Manual Practitioner program, and our graduates are certified Masters in Practice of Osteopathic Manual Sciences (M. OMSc’s).

How is it different?
How this service can help you

Osteopathy focuses on facilitating the health of joints and muscles through non-invasive manual therapy, helping to strengthen the framework of the body, and acts as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medicine.

By working with the interrelated systems and functions of the human body, osteopathic manual therapy can return the body to normal health so it can self-heal and self-regulate.

Osteopath

An osteopath is a licensed physician who practices medicine using both conventional treatments and osteopathic manipulative medicine, which focuses on relieving pain and tension in the musculoskeletal system. Osteopathy is a drug-free, non-invasive manual therapy that aims to improve health across all body systems by manipulating and strengthening the musculoskeletal framework.
